Unicorn Birthday Party

Unicorns…they are everywhere!  But the best place to find a unicorn is in a four tier chocolate cake!

This year we celebrated our daughter’s birthday with afternoon tea and floral crown craft.  When moving from primary to secondary school, only a few girls kept in touch, so an afternoon tea was the perfect post summer reunion for a lovely bunch of kids.  Ahem… teenagers!

Our trusted ‘I believe in unicorns’ banners from Moss Cottage was the anchor wall decor,  accompanied by half opened tissue honey combs. I picked up the flowers in Bloomingdales Florist and the ice cream light is another Moss Cottage find.

We ordered the birthday cake ( a first for us), from Treats By Pri and were so happy we did.  Not only was it beautiful; it took away so much pressure!  I was able to focus on the little touches I wanted to add, making the party extra special. ❤

The cake pops were also from Treats By Pri.   As party favours, each pop was placed in a cello bag and secured with a thank you card and a navy ribbon.

I borrowed a mini Instax camera  from my Aunt (discounted at the moment)  and the girls had a great time posing with their floral crowns against the photo back drop.  Each girl took home a photo with the birthday girl and a note of thank you. For the photo backdrop, I used a long dowel and painted it white with Rustoleum chalk paint.  Then I hung net curtains that I picked up at Ikea.  I found the rose gold circle garland in Moss Cottage and cut them to the length.   Either end was closed in with tissue honey combs.

Ironically none of the girls drank tea, so I served a berry salad in the china cups.  The cups ranged from a few years old to 100 years old.  The girls loved the real thing and were very respectful and careful.  I was delighted to share them with my daughter and her friends, the china was made to be used, and not locked away in a cabinet.

The Off Beat Donuts were ‘supposed’ to be presented in a frame like the Pinterest/Instagram craze, but I ran out of time.  They were still delicious and the colourful hundreds and thousands tied in the unicorn theme perfectly!

The girls had a great time and loved getting dressed in party clothes for afternoon tea! Next year’s party is already in the planning! 😉

Side note: In case you are wondering, the wall colour is Indigo Batik from Fleetwood Paints in Stillorgan Decor.  It’s a little brighter in ‘real life’.  Last year, while planning a party, I bought the ‘I believe in unicorn’ banner from Moss Cottage, but it was lost on the white wall.  I painted the wall navy teh unicorn banner just popped!!  On top of that, it transformed our living room and we love it!
